Malta’s Embassy in Libya to Start Accepting Schengen Visa Applications From July 24
Such a decision has been confirmed by Malta’s ambassador to Libya, Charles Saliba while stressing that applications will be processed by VFS Global, AtoZSerwisPlus.mt reports.
In April, Saliba confirmed to Libya Herald that the Consulate of Malta started accepting Schengen tourist visa applications through VFS Global in Tripoli.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Malta also plans to open a visa office in Dhaka, Bangladesh, after suspending visa issuance to citizens of Malta for a period of three months, which led about 300 Bangladeshi workers to face delays when planning to travel to Malta, despite the fact they had job opportunities from their employers in Malta.
Regarding the issue, the Bangladesh Ambassador to Greece, who is currently in charge of Malta, Asud Ahmed, stressed that the embassy is attempting to clear this tangle of visas, adding that soon authorities in Malta will appoint their visa agents in Dhaka.
In addition, the President of Malta Awami League, Moshiar Rahman, added that “Many complications have arisen due to the non-issuance of visas by the Malta High Commission in India. As far as I know, the Malta visa issue will start from Bangladesh next month.”
Besides, authorities in Malta also announced that the country opened its consulate in Tripoli, accepting tourism applications, after remaining temporarily closed.
Authorities in Malta also confirmed that besides tourism visas, medical, business as well as education visas are also eligible.
Back then, ambassador Saliba also announced that soon visas would be issued from another city in Libya, Benghazi.
In addition, Saliba stressed that the country would support Libya even under the current circumstances.
“This was only possible by collective effort with the Consul of Malta, Mr Sandro Magro, and the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs,” the ambassador stressed.
Besides, another European country, Italy, also started granting visas in June, as reported by Libya Herald.
Authorities in Italy confirmed that the Italian Consulate General in Benghazi also started granting visas to citizens of Libya who planned to enter Italy.
The Consulate in Benghazi opened its doors earlier this month, on July 5, headed by Carlo Batori.
Following the example of other European countries, authorities in Malta also temporarily suspended the issuance of visas due to the situation caused by the Coronavirus situation; however, the country has started to reopen them after confirming that the epidemiological situation permits such a decision to be taken.
